Faith & Counseling

Perhaps you were taught that Christians shouldn’t need counseling because they have the power of God and the fellowship of the church. Or you were cautioned that the principles of psychology run counter to the Word of God and could therefore lead you astray. Maybe you have thought therapy was just for people with really big problems and that you will be healed when you just “have more faith.”

Others have experienced church hurt or abuse in the name of God and have valid concerns about pursuing counseling at a practice that claims the name “Christian.” Still others may wonder what people mean when they call themselves Christians and if this understanding will fit within their own worldview and faith paradigm?

Whatever your faith journey or questions, you may have found your way here because you are considering whether counseling could help increase your sense of connectedness and meaning. Faith is complex and tender and never one-size-fits-all. For that reason, our counselors are trained to take your lead and collaborate with you in the ways you choose, or do not choose, to explore your faith within your therapeutic journey.

Ally counselors deeply respect your beliefs and are here to support you as you reflect upon and expand those. If you would like to learn more about Integrative Christian counseling (practiced at Ally) and how it differs from other kinds of counseling (including Biblical and Christian Psychology models), click here to read an explanatory article by Pastor Tim Keller. If you would like to schedule an appointment with one of our counselors, call or text (360) 977-3798.

We look forward to hearing your story and walking with you into greater healing.
