About Michael:
Michael Fernandez, LMHCA earned both his Bachelor of Arts in Bible & Theology (2012) and Master of Arts in Counseling (2020) from Multnomah University in Portland Oregon. He is a licensed Mental Health Counselor (LH61427796) in the state of Washington. Michael grew up as a missionary kid and spent more than half of his childhood overseas. He has been involved in ministry for over 13 years.
Ministry experience:
Michael has worked with churches in Colorado, California, Oregon, and Washington. He has served in a number of roles including worship pastor, college ministry leadership, and youth staff. Michael worked in a student leadership position for 2 years as a resident assistant (RA) while earning his undergraduate degree. He also interned and then worked in a community development organization summer program over 2 years in Portland.
Counseling approach:
Michael uses a holistic approach to counseling, blending a foundation in neuroscience with a client-centered cognitive-behavioral focus. He uses empathy and humor to assist clients in navigating trauma, depression, and anxiety while developing emotional strength, identity, and self-worth. He has experience in public school settings as well as group practice with mostly young adult and middle-aged clients. Michael also holds a certification as a facilitator for the Prepare/Enrich couples counseling program (including pre-marital).
